Top 6 Art Challenges
You have probably already heard of some of these, or you have tried them out yourself. Or maybe you want to participate in one but don't know which one to start with or where to find them. I'd like to share my experiences with my favorite ones and to inspire you. I will add hashtags for each and links so you can find them on social media.
1) Character Design Challenge | #CDC #CDChallenge
With some of my digital paintings below, I joined some current topics of the CDC, Character Design Challenge. This challenge is ideal if you want to focus on one character at a time - you can also add a sidekick, a pet, or a mount (horse, etc.). Participants usually upload beautiful illustrations and sometimes concepts (by the latter I mean when the character is shown in multiple views, gestures, or facial expressions). What I like most about this challenge is that there are so many good solutions to the same theme. It's very inspiring to see so many different approaches.
You can participate in this challenge by joining this Facebook group:

2) Draw This In Your Style Challenge | #dtiys
This challenge comes in handy when you don't have a particular idea and would rather focus on your style and the process of drawing. It is also a good opportunity to connect with other artists, especially those whose artworks we are reinterpreting. I think the fact that you are "legally" allowed to recreate another artist's work is brilliant in itself. You can also create your DTIYS image to inspire others to create your artwork in their style. Then you can support them by sharing their versions of your artwork on your profile. What I like the most is that it creates a mutual relationship between artist and artist with the tools of visual communication. It's like paying tribute to each other through a work of art.
You can find this challenge mostly on Instagram.

3) Six Fan Arts Challenge | #sixfanarts
I asked people to say six characters that I should draw. That's how I met, for example, Zoya and Napstablok, and I already knew the other four. I was very happy to draw them all.
I like to think in series and this is perfect for that. I feel like this project developed my technique a lot and established my thinking in a cartoonish or comic book style.
I think this challenge appears on many social media platforms.
4) Inktober Challenge | #inktober
As you've possibly guessed, it got the name by merging Ink + October ^^ Therefore it's in autumn and I think that is the best part of it. We can draw inspiration from the colorful leaves falling from the trees, Halloween, the cozy atmosphere, and similar feelings. This is an area where you can feel free to experiment with different techniques, especially working with traditional tools. You can follow other's lists or make your own, the point is to draw something every day including the ink technique.I took it seriously in 2019 and the biggest challenge for me was drawing a new picture every day and then posting it. Later I've found that it's better (for me) to just sketch or just make a few finished images throughout the month - like I've managed it for Witchtober in 2020 (see point five below). My biggest result of this challenge was that I've placed some ideas that I might develop later. I have already completed a couple of them. During Inktober, I also drew a couple of Ghibli fan art.
You can find this challenge mostly on Instagram and it also has an official website where you can learn more of the details: inktober.com
5) Witchtober challenge | #witchtober
This series of mine received a lot of positive feedback, which made me very happy. ^^ I think this is where I managed to give the most space to my feelings and dive into the depths by giving enough time to an image. The orange-brown as the only main color was a good idea, so I focused more on lines, shapes and lights. Also, a specific topic like “witches" helped me making this series unified.
You can find this challenge mostly on Instagram but I've seen it at other social media platforms too.
6) 10 Art Styles Challenge
This challenge is very good for practicing styles and to get more close to your own style. Finding my style for me is one of the most difficult challenge because I know what I like but I cannot really stick to one specific style. Currently I usually say "I have styles". I believe to really get to know a style the best if we try to copy it or - in this challenge - interpret it into our artwork. Who knows, maybe we realize that we are closer - or even further - for that style what we like but in the end it spins us nearer to what we really want to find. Below you can see my entry for this challenge as an example but there are great ones on the internet too.
Thank you for reading! ^^
